Malibu Beach, Oliva
Nova, Spain.
How to get there:-
DRIVING FROM ALICANTE AIRPORT Recommendation:- Use a TomTom &
pump in Oliva as the nearest main town.
Leave the airport terminal/car park following the blue motorway signs for Valencia on the A7 motorway. There
will be a dual carriage way for about 15 kilometers where you will go under a tunnel during this time. Be careful
as there is often a speed camera in this tunnel. A short while after the tunnel you will enter the payage or toll
booths for entry onto the formal start of the A7 motorway.
Take a ticket and again follow the blue signs for Valencia on the A7 motorway. You will go past several exit
junctions for Benidorm, Calpe etc. but the exit you need is the Ondara which is about
70 kilometers after the toll booths. Exit for Ondara and pay the toll (about 7 Euros).
Follow signs for the N332 towards Oliva or Valencia on the new N332 bypass.
Keep on the N332 at all times. You will go through skirt past Ondara town and El Vergel.
About 5 kilometers past El Vergel start looking for a concrete bridge going over the N332 (there is only one
bridge so you cannot miss it). Just before the bridge and just past the overhead sign for Pego there is a slip road
on the right marked 'urbanization' - take this slip road.
The slip road joins
the lower part of the bridge road and you are now entering Oliva Nova Golf Resort and you will see a tree line
of palms.
At the next roundabout you will see a giant golf ball on a plinth. At this roundabout take the second exit (just
before the one that goes straight on).
About 800meters along this road (past the golf driving range) you will start to see houses and the road splits.
You can take either road where you will then see the main gates for Malibu Beach.
TIP:- Do not be tempted to take the N332 coast road avoiding the A7 motorway tolls unless
you want the picturesc route and a 2.5 hour drive along some very windy roads and stopping at every village or
town. After a long flights that's the last thing you usually need. You will spend more than the toll money in extra
fuel.
FROM VALENCIA AIRPORT Recommendation:- Use a TomTom & pump in
Oliva as the nearest main town.
Unless you have a sat nav (tom tom is the best) you will probably get lost or take many wrong turnings unless
you already know the way. Describing the route is very difficult so here is just the basics:-
Leave the airport terminal/car park following the blue motorway signs for Alicante on the A7 motorway. A short
while after you will enter the payage or toll booths for entry onto the A7 motorway.
Take a ticket and again follow the blue signs for Alicante on the A7 motorway. You will go past several exit
junctions for about 85 kilometers but the exit you need is the Oliva exit which. Exit the motorway and pay the toll
(about 6 Euros).
Follow signs for Oliva and you will eventually hit the N332 road. Get onto the N332 and follow signs for
Alicante. Once out of Oliva town and on the on the N332 heading towards Alicante or Denia you will eventually see a
concrete bridge going over the N332 (there is only one bridge so you cannot miss it). A short distance before the
bridge there is a slip road on the right marked 'urbanization' or Oliva Nova - take this slip road.
The slip road goes
past a petrol station and another confusing 'U' turn junction (it feels like you are going straight on to
re-join the N332).
You will eventually see a sign that says 'Urbanization' which is a slip road up onto the concrete bridge. You
will go over the bridge and you are now entering Oliva Nova Golf Resort and you will see a tree line of palms.
At the next roundabout you will see a giant golf ball on a plinth. At this roundabout take the second exit (just
before the one that goes straight on). About 800meters along this road (past the golf driving range) you will start
to see houses and the road splits. You can take either road where you will then see the main gates for Malibu
Beach.
TIP:- If you want to save money on the AP7 motorway toll road then you can keep to the
N332 which is still around 80% dual carriageway due to recent road improvements. It will add about another 20
minutes onto your journey. If you want to do this try to drive towards the coast & look out for signs to the
N332 towards Alicante.
Don't want to hire a car? - Then how about using a local taxi or private car hire service.
regretfully the only one we knew has now disappeared.
Why not give the local Oliva Nova Bar Sargantana a call as the young staff know a lot of people and they are
very helpful - they may even do it themselves for an agreed fee in the low season. Give them a call on 962 857 478.
Ask for Paul, Simon or Neil.
USING A TAXI
Both airports have a taxi service waiting but your will probably be charged around 120 euros. Both airport are
about 90 kilometers from Oliva Nova both using the N332 or the AP7 toll motorway.
USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM ALICANTE AIRPORT
Option 1 - Take bus or coach to Benidorm. The new airport terminal now has several floors
where the bus station is at the very bottom. However, I think the Benidorm buses go from above (do ask &
check). They are usually waiting outside and leave every 30 minutes. From the Benidorm coach station walk or taxi
to the light railway line commonly called 'The Lemon Express' which is a narrow gauge line with a new modern tram
system. Take the train / tram to Denia. From Denia take a taxi to Oliva Nova about 12 KM away along the coast
road.
Option 2 - Take bus or tax to Alicante town and ask for the light railway station by the
port. Take the light railway or tram to Denia which is a narrow gauge line with modern trams. From Denia take a
taxi to Oliva Nova about 12 KM away along the cost road.
USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM VALENCIA AIRPORT
When coming out of arrival doors inside the airport terminal turn left and head to the very end where there are
steps down to a sub-way underground station. Take the train into Valencia and get off at the main railway station
stop being Valencia Nord I think (next to the Valencia bull ring). Transfer onto an overline train to Gandia. This
train line runs alongside the N332 road and is a modern train line. Trains leave roughly every 30 minutes. Gandia
is the final stop. At Gandia take a taxi to Oliva Nova (about 27 euros). In the main summer season you may be able
to catch the local coach but they are very intermittent. In the high season their is a local bus from Gandia
to Oliva Town but it is very inconsistent so best avoided.
Warning: Every so often the train from Valencia main railway station goes to Gandia beach
(Platja). Avoid this train unless you are happy to try and find a local taxi from this point.
